Mount Rainier became the 5th national park in the United States in 1899. The mountain itself is a 14,411-foot tall stratovolcano located in the Cascade Range. Within the park are 2 large glaciers. The Carbon Glacier is the largest in the contiguous United States by volume and the Emmons Glacier is the largest by area (wikipedia).
